Smoky Valley senior Belle Peters was held to four gold medals at Thursday’s Central Kansas League Championships in Halstead. Not by ability but by the rule limiting competitors to four events. Peters broke two of the many meet records that fell, and the Lady Vikings cruised to the team championship.
Monday’s track meet in Great Bend was reduced from eight teams to seven before it even started. The meet was moved from an even colder Friday, then Kiowa County was a late scratch as blustery winds pushed the wind chill below freezing at times. Ness City and LaCrosse were late additions to the meet.
After two years, it’s finally high school track season in Kansas and one of the best high jumpers in the country is Sterling’s Tyus Wilson. The Nebraska commit will look to repeat as a three-time state champion this season.
