The Kansas State High School Track Meet for all classes is coming up Friday at Wichita State University’s Cessna Stadium. But one of the state’s best relay teams won’t be competing.
Great Bend, behind a wealth of underclassmen, won the meet with 144 points. Valley Center finished second with 94 points, and Topeka West scored 88 points for third.
The Swathers won Thursday’s meet with 100 points, closely followed by Halstead with 85 points, Hoisington with 75 points, and Smoky Valley and Hillsboro with 71 and 70 points, respectively.
Smoky Valley senior Belle Peters was held to four gold medals at Thursday’s Central Kansas League Championships in Halstead. Not by ability but by the rule limiting competitors to four events. Peters broke two of the many meet records that fell, and the Lady Vikings cruised to the team championship.
