After winning the Class 5-1A team title last winter, the Circle boys' bowling team is off to a quick start for the 2016 season.

The Thunderbirds took down Buhler in their season opener on Tuesday and they followed the season-opening victory with a win over Mulvane in Derby.

Circle topped the Wildcats by just 48 pins in a 2,392-2,344 victory.

On the girls' side, Mulvane's Maddison Osenbaugh came away with a 256 in her opening game to take home the top individual score.

The Wildcats' senior is coming off a 20th-place finish in last year's state tournament and she helped her team claim the 2,295-1,973 victory.

For Circle, Lily Martini highlighted Thursday night's performance with a team-high 206 in the third and final game.

The senior picked up four-straight strikes in her fifth through eighth frames.

"I'm very proud of Lily because she stuck with her mark and watched her mark and stayed focus," Circle assistant and girls' coach Julie Rives said. "It's a focused game and she's just very coachable. She's worked very hard and she told me last night that she's practicing a lot. That means a lot to me as a coach that she's taking it seriously and she proved it today with her performance."
