Eisenhower crowned Class 5-1A champions

Brian Adelgren is buying dinner and he couldn't be more happy about it.

The Eisenhower coach was wanting to offer his bowlers incentive heading into Friday's state tournament.

While the Tiger bowlers say their head coach's offer played just one part in their state title pursuit, they're are dining happily as state champions.

Eisenhower took home the title with a huge third game and Madison Douglass finished third with a total of 662 pins. She was one of three Tiger bowlers that finished in the top 26.

Heading into the final game, Eisenhower sat in third and was behind by 53 pins.

Adelgren stressed to his bowlers that they needed to stick to their approach.

"I told them to keep plugging away," Adelgren said. "Just keep throwing shots and making your spares and we're going to be good. It was going to be more to our advantage as the games go on and the other teams tend to drop off and that's what happened."

This wasn't unfamiliar territory for the Tigers as they finished second at last year's state tournament.

"It started last year at this time," Adelgren said. "These girls started working toward this year. They all believed after last year that they could win the title this year. They took the effort personally and we got together as a team at the beginning of the season and our effort was focused on this moment. Our goal from day one was a state championship."
