WICHITA, Kan. In a game that should be a preview of a playoff rematch next week, East and West went back and forth to close out the regular season. In the end it was West coming out on top 28-14.
East got the scoring started. QB Nickendre Stiger tried deep ball after deep ball, and finally found Daylan Jones along the sideline. That play set up a 4th and short from inside the 5-yard line. On that play, Stiger hit a wide open Kamarion Hart in the end zone for the touchdown to go up 6-0.
Early on, the West offense was keeping things on the ground. After the Blue Aces first score, Pioneer QB Quentin Saunders broke off a long run. West then faced a 4th down of their own deep in East territory, but the Aces held strong and forced the turnover on downs.
But West scored twice before the break to take a 14-8 lead into the break. East answered in the 3rd and tied it up at 14.
The Pioneers retook the lead in the 4th quarter and held on to win it 28-14. That win means West will host the playoff game next week against East.
