West knocks-off East for 2nd straight week

WICHITA, Kan. Finding game tape to scout their first round playoff opponents for East and West would be easy. It was just a week ago that these city league rivals played each other in their regular season finale. As luck would have it the Pioneers and Blue Aces were paired up in the first round where East would have a chance to avenge last week's 28-7 defeat.

West made sure that attempt wouldn't be easy as the Pioneers scored early and often. Weston Schartz's crew was had built a comfortable 20-7 lead late in the second quarter. West had possession of the ball deep in its own territory and was playing it conservative by calling a run. But Tre Vaunte Hunt gave them more than they hoped for as he bounced it outside and was off to the races. 72 yards later he was in the endzone and the Pioneers went up 27-7.

The second half was much of the same for West as the option ground game was firing on all cylinders. Jomarion Nelson scored from 28 yards out on a well blocked run where he was never touched. That made it 34-7 in favor of the Pioneers.

East simply didn't have an answer for the West ground game on Friday. Still in the third quarter Milan Jenkins called his own number on the option and got loose for a 13 yard gain but was called out of bounds just short of the goal-line. Jenkins hammered it home on the next play though and the Pioneers lead was 41-0.

Xavier Sellers got in on the West scoring binge later in the third quarter. Sellers used a slick spin-move to shake a tackler and scamper home for an 18 yard touchdown run. That made the score 47-0, and that would be the final score as West moves on to the second round of the playoffs.
