Wellington and Augusta entered play Friday with an identical number of losses at five each, meaning tonight's game could have a big impact on the final standings.
For the first half, it looked like Augusta would take that advantage. But on the final scoreboard it was Wellington coming out ahead by a lone point, 48-47.
Both teams came out firing early, with the Orioles extending their lead to 18-10 midway through the second, then 22-14. Wellington got the deficit down to five for a 23-18 halftime score.
After the break, Wellington kept that momentum going, taking a one point lead late in the third quarter. The game was back and forth from there, with Augusta going up 44-43 late.
Wellington scored the next four points to go up by three with under a minute to play. Then leading 48-45, Augusta got it within one but that's as close as they would get.
Wellington moves to 10-5 with the win, dropping Augusta to 8-6. The Crusaders have a week off before a tough game with Rose Hill next Friday night. Augusta will match up with Collegiate on Tuesday.
