GARDEN CITY, Kan. The three and a half hour drive for the Valley Center Hornets proved to be worth it.

The Garden City Buffaloes, coming off of a season opening loss to to the 6A Runner-Up Derby Panthers, were down from the start.

With the all the pre-game excitement, from a helicopter landing on the 50 yard line to the track filled with veterans and their motorcycles. The Hornets jumped out to a 7-0 lead with a 100 yard punt return by Larry Wilson. The Buffs could never get close, trailing the entirety of the game.

As the second half came the Hornets extended their lead even more to go up 34-14. With a late rally, that was aided by a scoop and score from the Buffs’ Reece Moors on a blocked punt. As the rain began to fall and the fourth quarter arrived, the Hornets threw in their underclassmen to finish the job, a 41-20 victory.

The now 0-2 Buffaloes will next be in action September 14th, as they travel to Hutchinson to take on the Salthawks.

The 1-1 Valley Center Hornets will have their home opener of the season against Maize South next Friday night.
