Top-seeded Golden Eagles survive in walk-off fashion

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) -- The top-seeded Bishop Carroll Golden Eagles will still have their shot at 5A State redemption this weekend, after surviving an extra-inning quarterfinal thriller against 8-seed Salina South.

The Golden Eagles got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning on a throwing error. The game remained 1-0 until the top of the 7th inning, when Salina Central's Drew Baird drove in Luke Streit for the tying run.

Bishop Carroll loaded the bases in the bottom of the 8th inning with only one out. Cale Blasi hit into a fielder's choice to first, and the throw home was not in time. Logan Stockemer beat the tag and the Golden Eagles won 2-1 to advance to the semifinals.

Winning pitcher, Jack Ebright allowed one run on four hits through 6.1 innings. Salina Central pitcher, Cole Wassenberg, allowed one run on two hits through 5.2 innings. He also struck out nine batters.

Bishop Carroll will play the winner of Ark City and Topeka-Seaman in the semifinal game Friday, roughly at 12:15 pm.
