TMP advances to State Tournament for second-consecutive year

HOISINGTON, Kan. (KWCH) -- The TMP-Marian Monarchs defeated the Smoky Valley Vikings by a score of 60 to 35 to return to the 3A State Tournament for a second year in a row.

Both teams competed in the 3A Sub-State Tournament in Hoisington.

The game started slowly with both sides seeming to probe each other. TMP's post players helped to open up some scoring. The first quarter with the Monarchs on top 9 to 3.

Smoky Valley tried to get some offense going, but they could not find the basket enough. At the halftime break, TMP continued to lead 24 to 10.

The second half continued the same story from the first half. Smoky Valley would try to mount a comeback but TMP would quickly squelch it and add to the lead.

At the final whistle, TMP lead by 25, 60 to 35.

TMP's Jared Mayers lead all scorers with 17 points. Ryan Karlin added 14 points. Carson Jacobs contributed 12 points.

"Our bigs got us going with some nice rebounds. When they got going that got our guards going with the same intensity," said TMP-Marian Head Coach Bill Meagher. "We are just trying to be the best team we can be. Every game so far in the last five games we've gotten better and we just hope that continues as we go."

TMP returns to the 3A State Tournament in Hutchinson for the second year in a row. They will play their first round game on Thursday.
