The Thomas More Prep Monarchs and Colby Eagles track and field teams took first Thursday at the Goldsmith Relays in Wakeeney.
The TMP girls were lead by first place finishes from Abby Rueschhoff in the long jump, Paris Wolf in the triple jump and Jenna Romme in the high jump as the Monarchs swept the golds in the jumping events. Sasha Wasinger took first in the shot put to make it four top finishes in the field events. They also added a first place in the 4x800 relay, beating Colby by 26 seconds for 5 gold medals on the day.
Norton finished 14 points behind TMP in the team standings, with Courtney Jones winning the pole vault as the lone vaulter to clear 10-00. Jaida McEwen gave the Blue Jays a second first place finish in the field events with a win in the Javelin. Norton added five more wins on the track, with Slayten Braun winning both the 100 and 200 meter dashes, and anchoring their 4x100 relay team to gold. The Norton 4x400 relay team also finished first while Lexi Kats won the 800.
On the boys side it was Colby that took first ahead of TMP, finishing with 136 points to give the Eagles the win. Xavier Slaven was the lone winner for the Eagles in the field events, taking first in the Javelin, but they had a big day on the track. The Eagles 4x800 relay team started the day with a win, finishing 7 seconds ahead of second place Norton, then Jordan Schippers won the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.01. The Eagles then swept the final two relay races of the day, also winning both the 4x100 and 4x400.
