After coming up just short of the state championship in 2017, the Spearville Lancers haven't had the same kind of success in the 2018 regular season--which is to say they didn't finish unblemished.
A 6-2 mark was only good enough for third place in the tough 6th district of 8-man Division 1, but in the playoffs a brand new season begins, of course.
That new season means a chance to get back to sub-state and beyond, and Spearville started off with a big 54-24 road win at previously 7-1 Little River.
The Lancers jumped out to an early 34-0 lead that proved to be insurmountable for the Redskins, who scored all but 6 of their points after the break.
Spearville will now go to district rival Hodgeman County, a team that just two weeks ago blasted the Lancers 54-8.
