South wins high scoring bout with Newton

In what will surely be one of the highest scoring games of the season, Wichita South won a shootout with Newton 92-85 on day two of the GWAL/AVCTL Challenge at Koch Arena.

Romao Townes led all scorers with 29 points for the Titans, 14 of those coming in a first quarter where he outscored the Railers by himself.

Trailing by 9 through a quarter, Newton came back to make it a 2 point game before South closed the first half on a 9-0 run to make it 34-23 at the break.

Then in the second half Newton again put together a run, even taking a 44-43 lead at one point in the third quarter behind the scoring of Alex Krogmeier, but that would come to be their only lead of the second half as South again went up by double digits, never letting the lead go before winning 92-85.

In addition to Townes 29, Darryon Frierson put up 25 for the Titans. Krogmeier finished with 25 himself for the Railers.
