Salina Central steals home opener from Goddard

The Goddard Lions enter the 2019 season after posting a 20-3 record a year ago, ending the season in the quarterfinals of the state tournament. The Lions enter ranked in our preseason rankings but a 46-40 upset from Salina Central could see Goddard fall a few spots.

This game ultimately came down to who could make the big shot late in the game. Both Goddard and Salina Central had no trouble finding points from the floor. For the Lions, All-State player Kade Hackerott had the hot hand throughout the second half hitting big shots from well behind the three point line when the Lions needed points.

The same can be said for Hampton Williams and Aubrie Kierscht for Salina Central. Williams proved tough around the rim finishing through contact and converting an and-one situation in the fourth quarter. Kierscht was able to get to the line by drawing contact from Goddard before a fourth quarter three iced the game in favor of the Mustangs.
