Sabetha sneaks by in overtime to claim back-to-back 3A titles, 43-42

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (KWCH) Head Coach Michael Garrett for the Sabetha Bluejays says his coaching staff and players all decided on the team's last move of the game.

The state championship title for 3A all came down to Bluejay Quarterback Gabe Garber running the ball against Pratt's strongest defender for a two-point conversion to win the game.

Heading into this matchup, both Pratt and Sabetha achieved unbeaten seasons; but the Bluejays are familiar with title territory. They are also no strangers to close matchups. Last year the Bluejays slid by on a 7-6 win for the championship.

It was a heartbreak loss for Travis Theis and company. The quarterback changed positions at the start of the year to fill in as quarterback. He rushed for 250 yards on the day. The Greenbacks, as a whole, out ran and out passed the Bluejays.

Garrett said after the game that he knew his team could not stop Theis, but they wanted to slow him down.
