Wichita East moved into prime position for a GWAL title with a 3-0 win over Heights Tuesday night.
The Blue Aces entered with just one non-league loss, the season opener against Dodge City, on their record, while Heights had only dropped a match to Kapaun Mt. Carmel.
But thanks to the foot of Ivan Quezada, the Blue Aces stayed perfect in league play, improving to 9-1 on the season with Quezada netting a hat trick in the process.
After Heights came close to scoring early, East took control of possession for much of the rest of the half, but the game remained scoreless until Quezada was able to score on a counter attack in the 34th minute to make it a 1-0 match.
That score stayed the same until midway through the second half, when Quezada was able to get by a defender and strike in his second of the match. Then after a foul in the box followed by a long delay, Quezada stepped in for the penalty kick and got the hat trick, the final goal in the 3-0 match.
East will take on West Thursday night ahead of next week's North Cup action. Heights has the rest of the week off ahead of the tournament's start against the host Redskins on Monday.
