WICHITA, Kan. The Northwest Grizzlies still had a sour taste from a year ago after losing to Derby in the 6A substate game. Since then, the Grizzlies, led by a core group of seniors like Breece Hall and Josh Carter have made it their mission to not only get back to the substate game, but to take the next step. Following Friday night's 67-60 win over Maize, Northwest is a step further than a year ago, but still not satisfied.

The matchup between the two 5A powerhouse teams lived up to the hype. Both offenses scored at ease, scoring more than 120 points combined.
Northwest QB Reagan Jones narrowly outdueled his counterpart in Caleb Grill. Both quarterbacks exceled in two separate facets of the positon. Jones stuck to the ground for most of the night, finding the endzone twice in the first quarter on option plays. Grill was able to spread the ball out to a plethora of wide recievers mainly targeting Preven Christon and Caden Cox.
Grill found each on multiple occasions for Eagles points throughout the night.
Jones would not be outdone, finding Zion Jones for a game winning touchdown with less than a minute to go.
The Grizzles advance to take on St. Thomas Aquinas in the 5A state championship game. Maize ends the season 10-2.
