For the first time since 2012, the Wichita North Redskins are headed to the state soccer quarterfinals following a 2-1 road win at Wichita East Thursday.
The two GWAL rivals were playing one another for the third time in as many weeks, with East taking each of the first two matchups before North won when it mattered most in the regional finals.
While it's usually Nayeli Gallo and Irai Fernandez doing the scoring for North, this game belonged to Maria Salas, with the senior scoring a pair of first half goals for North to give them a 2-0 advantage into the halftime.
After the break, East's Martiza Cabrales coming up from the back to score off a deflected corner kick, but that was it for the Aces who saw their season come to an end with a 13-5 overall mark.
North will move on to face Manhattan Tuesday night, traveling to face the Indians with a trip to the final four on the line. A win for Manhattan would mark the second straight season they reached the semifinal round.
