The Nickerson Lady Panthers win their third straight 4A Sub-State Championship after defeating the Holton Lady Wildcats by a score of 53 to 34.

With Nickerson earning the number one seed in the west bracket, the game was held on their home court.

Nickerson took an early five point lead to start the game. Holton mounted a run late in the first quarter to pull within one point at the end of the period.

The Lady Wildcats received the ball to start the second quarter and quickly took the lead. They would score only one more point the rest of the half.

Holton held Nickerson scoreless for approximately five minutes. Then the Lady Panthers took off on a 12 point run to end the second quarter leading 23 to 13.

In the second half, Nickerson pulled back from a full court press that caused them some foul trouble earlier in the game. Morgan Stout earned three fouls quickly in the first half.

Nickerson also poured on the points in the second half. They scored a combined 30 points in the half. Holton only added 21.

Nickerson's Ava Jones led all scorers with 23 points. Holton's Saydee Tanking scored 17.

"I felt if we played any where close to our capabilities in the second half, we would be able to win the game," said Nickerson Head Coach Jon McLean. "Its all about playing your best basketball against good competition."

"In the first half our girls competed hard," said Holton Head Coach Kirk Haussler. "They were hurting us on the offensive glass. Nickerson's zone was super effective tonight."

"I'm super proud of this group of girls," said Coach Haussler. "We've had a very difficult schedule. They just want to compete and win together."

Holton ends the year with a 12 and 10 record.

Nickerson advances to the 4A State Tournament in Salina. They will play their quarterfinal game on Wednesday.
