After building a big lead just to see it diminish, McPherson finished strong to beat top ranked Andover Central on the road Tuesday night.
After a back and forth start, two threes from Hayes Schmid late in the first quarter lit a fire under the Pup offense. With an 18-14 lead after one, McPherson built on that, going up by as much as 12 in the second quarter, a 33-21 score with sophomore Seth Madron taking over for much of the run.
The lead was 8 at half, but it quickly evaporated with the Jags hitting three straight triples to open the second half and regain the lead for the first time since the first quarter. The Central lead would stretch into the fourth quarter, but McPherson took it back and hit crucial free throws down the stretch to seal the 52-47 win.
McPherson will be on the road facing Derby on Friday while Andover Central will meet Bishop Carroll in the AVCTL/GWAL Challenge the same night.
