McPherson takes care of rival Buhler with big 2nd half

McPherson, Kan. McPherson knocked off rival Buhler, 21-14 in the Catch It Kansas Game of the Week. The K-61 showdown came in with all kinds of hype this year, as 7th ranked Buhler and 2nd ranked McPherson both came in to the game unbeaten.

Early on, it was slow going as McPhersonput the only 1st half points on the board on a Kaleb Hoppes pass to Aaron Powell, who had a great run after the catch for the score.

But after the half things got interesting. The Bullpups jumped out to a 21 nothing lead after an interception set up a long Jakob Feil touchdown run. Buhler would make it interesting scoring 14 unanswered to close it. But it's McPherson at home staying unbeaten.

"We were so excited to play somebody that was going to give us a heck of a football game," said McPherson Head Coach Jace Pavlovich. "And that was a team that could have very easily beat us. We had a false start on an outside zone that we blocked really well, miscues on special teams, dropped passes, it's things like that that are pretty uncharacteristic of our team."

"We started pretty slow the first half, and then we got a pretty good lead up 21-0," said McPherson Quarterback Kaleb Hoppes. "And then I was just kind of a switch, they started coming back and we knew we had to turn it on and stop them. We knew that'd be really pretty good defensively."

McPherson tries to stay unbeaten with a road trip to Augusta next week.
