BUHLER, Kan. In 2017, these two teams played in one of the best games of the year. An instant classic, ending in overtime with McPherson calling a trick play on a two point conversion to edge out their rival 15-14.
Friday night, the gang got back together, but this time the game ended much sooner.
Kyler Hoppes, Jace Kinnamon and Gabe Hoover, the three players to touch the ball on that fateful play in 2017, lead the Bullpups to a 46-7 win with ease at Buhler in the 2018 edition of the matchup.
Hoppes got the scoring started, taking in a keeper from 5 yards out after Kinnamon set the Pups up in a goal to go situation. Later in the quarter, Kinnamon got on the board himself, taking one to the pylon from 25 yards out to make it 14-0.
It was one of those night for the Buhler defense, Kinnamon running through tacklers, gaining over 100 yards for a fifth straight game, then Hoppes using his dual threat ability to keep the the Crusaders on edge. And his favorite target Hoover was doing his thing too to the tune of two touchdowns through the air.
You can't look away from what the Mac defense did either. Seemingly every play at least one lineman was in the Buhler backfield, keeping QB Colton Goans from getting any rhythm going.
McPherson improves to 5-0 on the year and will host Augusta next. Buhler will try to end a two game slide in Towanda against Circle.
