For a second straight season, Maize has started out 5-0, getting there with a 42-0 destruction of Goddard Friday night in their biggest test of the young season.
Preven Christon got things started for the Eagles with his first of two scores on the day, a catch and run for the lone score of the first quarter.
New KU commit Caden Cox kept it going in the second, starting what turned out to be a big quarter for the Eagles with one of his two rushing scores. A Tanner Carter reception and Tyris Hopson pick six got the score to 28-0 at half in Maize favor.
But in between the scoring came a scary moment for Goddard as QB Kyler Semrad went down with what appeared to be a knee injury, and he did not return to the game.
After half, Maize kept the scoring rolling, with Cox and Christon adding their second scores of the day to close out the 42-0 home win.
Maize will face the Salina schools in the next two week, starting with a home game against Salina South next Friday. Goddard, now losers of three straight games, will host Valley Center next week looking to turn it around.
