Maize pulls away from Campus in battle of unbeatens

MAIZE, Kan. The Maize High Eagles have been rolling, posting an undefeated record so far on the season. Outside of a one point win on the road against Derby earlier this week, the Eagles have been unstoppable, beating opponents by double digit margins. On Friday, the Eagles showed once again why they're one of the hottest teams in 5A hoops with a 61-48 win over Campus.

Maize was led by a dual effort from Caleb Grill and Brandle Easter Jr. Grill, a South Dakota State hoops commit found Smith slashing to the basket on numerous occasions where Smith made a living against the Colts.

The Campus trio of Sterling Chapman, Steel Chapman, and Thomas King tried to keep pace with the Eagles but would ultimately run out of steam. The Eagles stretched a 7-point third quarter lead late into the fourth, handing the Colts their first loss of the season.

When asked about the last two games, Maize senior Caleb Grill noted the competitive nature of the Eagles in each win.

"We knew that these last two games would be dog fights. We just came in the game and we wanted to out compete the team that we played and I thought that we did that tonight, we only gave up 48 points and I think our defense was really good tonight."

Maize will take its undefeated record on the road to Hutchinson while Campus will look to right the ship at home against Newton.
