Maize gets by top ranked Derby for senior night dual win

One of the area's biggest duals of the season turned out to be as good as you could imagine. Headlined by the top ranked wrestlers at 182 in both 6A and 5A facing off, it was the Maize Eagles that came away with the tight 34-32 win on senior night.

In the bout of the night, Derby Triston Wills trailed to Maize's Kyle Haas for most of the match. Wills scored two points with the clock winding down to break a 2-2 tie and hand Haas his first loss of the year, 4-2.

Maize lead for most of the dual, winning 6 straight matches after falling at 106 early. But a technical fall courtesy of Tyler Allen gave Derby a 32-31 lead with just the heavyweights to go. Then the two state ranked grapplers at 285 took it down to the wire, with Maize's Jacob Quiggle breaking a 1-1 tie in overtime with a takedown to give the Eagle wrestlers the 34-32 win.
