If the Eisenhower girls were ever going to beat Maize, this was the night.
Eisenhower entered the game 5-2 and ranked No. 8 in 5A. Maize entered 4-4, but completely dismantled the Tigers 55-21 in Goddard.
The night started poorly for Eisenhower, as Maize jumped out to what felt like a gigantic 11-1 lead after the first quarter.
That 11-1 first-quarter run turned into a 20-4 start for the Eagles and they cruised the rest of the way.
Sydney Holmes and Baylee Miller both led Maize with nine points in the first half as the Eagles led 24-9 at the break.
Nothing went the Tigers’ way, as they didn’t score their first field goal until there was only 1:08 left in the first half.
It was Eisenhower’s only field goal of the half.
Eisenhower actually outscored Maize in the third quarter 9-8 as Kennedy Nicholson and Addi Verbeck hit a three-pointer each.
Maize’s Holmes scored a game-high 20 points, nearly single-handedly outscoring the Tigers. Teammate Olivia Wedman added 10 points in the win.
Nicholson led Eisenhower with seven points. The Tigers connected on just five field goals and went just 9-23 from the free throw line.
