Pitchers Ashlie Thissen and Allyson Montgomery owned much of Tuesday's matchup between Maize South and Eisenhower, but in the end it was Thissen and the Mavs that were able to do just enough more than the Tigers in a tight 3-1 road win.
For the first three innings, only Maize South's Lauren Johnson was making an offensive impact, slugging both a leadoff triple and later a double to the wall, but she never came around to score.
Then to lead the fourth, Maverick freshman Emma Edwards connected on a solo bomb to end the scoreless drought. The Mavs added a second run in the inning, enough to hold off Eisenhower. The Tigers had a chance in the last half inning, advancing runners to second and third with two outs, but Thissen ended the game with a strikeout to close out the win.
In game two, Eisenhower exacted some revenge, coming away with a 3-2 win to earn a split on the day.
