Maize South improved to 24-0 on the season with a two-set win, 25-22 25-16, over previously unbeaten Garden City Thursday night.

The two schools played a back and forth first set, with the scoring spread never getting past 2 points until the end of the match. Garden City kept the lead for much of the early parts of the match, before the Mavericks took 5 out of 6 points to turn it around and take an 18-16 lead, but Garden City then came back to even things out.

Reagan Karlin got a pair of clutch kills to even things at 21 and then 22, but the Mavs rallied off three straight points to end the match, with Laurel Jones getting the final point.

The second set was all Mavs as Maize South jumped out to a quick 8-1 lead, never letting the set get closer than 6 to get the win. The Mavs pushed their lead to as much as 23-10 before Garden City had rallied 6 out of the next 7 points, but it wasn't enough as the Buffs suffered their first loss of the season.
