Maize South girls handle Mill Valley
Maize South dominates Mill Valley 42-25
Maize South showed why it’s the No. 5 team in 5A Friday night against Mill Valley in El Dorado. The Mavericks raced out to an 11-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back in the 42-25 win over the Jaguars.
Riley Kennedy got things going for Maize South when she opened the scoring with a corner three-pointer.
The Mavericks then proved it with another three from Kaydyn Davison, who drained a second-straight three on the very next Maverick possession to put her team up nine points just three possessions into the game.
Maize South’s Alexa Davison then got in on the action with a mid-range jumper for the 11-0 lead. Mill Valley’s Greta Trowbridge scored her team’s first points. Even though it was still early, it was too little, too late as Maize South led 16-6 after the first quarter.
The Mavericks didn’t let up and they led 33-17 heading into the fourth quarter, where they continued on to the 42-25 win.
Maize South will face 4A No. 3 Circle in the Lady Cat Classic championship Saturday at 6:15 in El Dorado.
Mill Valley will play Goddard at 4:45 for third place in the 27th annual tournament.
