McPherson came into the game as the defending Class 4A Division I State Champions. This year they moved up to Class 5A. With the new playoff format, the Lady Bullpups earned the third seed in the West bracket due to an 18-1 record. Bishop Carroll came into the bracket as the six seed on a 14-6 record.

The game was held in McPherson due to the Lady Bullpups being the higher seed.

McPherson won the opening tip off and scored immediately. The would never surrender the lead. The Lady Bullpups held Bishop Carroll scoreless until 3:43 left in the first quarter. By that point, McPherson had put 11 points on the board.

At the halftime break, the Lady Bullpups lead 27 to 14.

The dominance by the home team continued in the second half. Bishop Carroll tried to mount a comeback early in the third quarter, but the Lady Bullpups put a stop to it.

By the final whistle, the score was 53 to 32.

McPherson's Grace Pyle lead all scorers with 14 points. Maggie Leaf added 10 points.

"We talked all year about being a top four seed to get a home sub-state," said McPherson Head Coach Chris Strathman. "I think you can see why today. The atmosphere here in the Roundhouse was fantastic. Our kids fed off the energy of the crowd and the crowd got energized by the kids."

"We put them on their heels right away," said Coach Strathman on how they came out against Bishop Carroll. "Our kids were super aggressive defensively and offensively."

For another year, the McPherson Lady Bullpups will play in the State Tournament. This year they will make the trek to Emporia for the Class 5A Championships.
