For the second straight week, Dodge City pulled off a big win with a last minute score, this time a home win over Great Bend to improve to 4-0 on the season.
Last week, it took an overtime score from Beau Miller to give the Demons a win over Heights.
This time, the hero was kicker Jose Valverde, who drilled a 22 yarder with just over a minute to play to give Dodge a 24-21 win.
The first half was all Dodge City, as the Demons got out to a 21-0 lead before the break behind a pair of Beau Miller scores and an Adam Knedler keeper for 6.
But Great Bend got back into it in the second half due to the legs of Dalton Miller. Miller punched in a pair of short scores before busting out a 63 yarder to tie the game at 21 in the fourth.
Then after being shut out for the prior 23 minutes, the Demons marched down the field to set up the winning score.
The now 4-0 Demons will make a trip to Wichita next week where they will take on Wichita West. Great Bend will also head ICT, taking on Bishop Carroll.
