Ben Powers, a Kapaun Mt. Carmel alum, was selected with the 123rd overall selection of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens Saturday.
After a standout career with the Crusaders, Powers signed to play at Butler Community College out of high school, garnering zero division one offers. He needed just one season in El Dorado to catch the eyes of the Oklahoma coaching staff before transferring.
Then in Norman, Powers started all three years for the Sooners, including being named first team all-Big 12 as a senior. The Wichita native gave up zero sacks to eventual Heisman winning quarterback Kyler Murray and was named a consensus All-American.
Powers is one of four offensive linemen to be drafted out of Oklahoma in 2019, part of a line that helped the Oklahoma offense average 8.7 yards per play in 2018 and make two straight College Football Playoff appearances.
