HUTCHINSON, Kan. - On paper, this looked like it could be one of the best regular season games to come out of Class 2A. Two evenly matched teams coming into the finale with like 6-1 records, with the loser being forced to travel for the first round of the playoffs.
In the end, it was the home Celtics that prevailed. The Celtics jumped out to a 14-0 lead before Chaparral answered with a pair of scores to send it to halftime tied at 14 apiece.
In the second half, the Roadrunners made it 22 unanswered, all Jake Burke rushing scores, to take their first lead of the game.
Trinity would answer but fail on the two point try to cut the lead to two. But with just a minute to play, Trinity punched in the game winner to come away with the 26-22 victory.
The Celtics earn the district 6 runner up spot and will host Belle Plaine in the first round of the playoffs. Chaparral will hit the road to Fredonia to open their postseason.
