This semifinal game was the first meeting of the two Central Kansas League teams this season.
Hoisington jumped out to an early lead on the Greenbacks. They finished the first quarter with a 16 to 4 lead.
The second quarter could only be described as anemic. Both teams combined for ten points with Hoisington going into the locker room at halftime leading 22 to 8.
After halftime, Pratt outscored Hoisington in the third quarter 13 points to 12, but they still trailed by 13. Brett Winsor scored seven of his 13 total points in the third quarter.
The fourth quarter saw things get very tight. Pratt got the score within two with about three minutes remaining. "I honestly didn't realize the lead was down to two at that timeout," said Hoisington Head Coach Kyle Haxton after the game.
The Cardinals responded to the close score by going to work at the free throw line. They made eight of the twelve attempted in the quarter.
By the final whistle, the Cardinals had rebuilt a ten point lead to win 45 to 35.
Hoisington's Mason Haxton lead all scorers with 18 points. Brett Winsor lead Pratt with 13 points.
The win gives Hoisington a chance to win their fourth consecutive Winter Jam championship. They will play Victoria Saturday night for the title.
Pratt will face Russell for the third place game Saturday afternoon.
