HAYS, Kan. (KWCH) -- The second day of the 36th Annual Gerald Mitchell Hays City Shootout was not kind to Hays and Great Bend schools.
The Thomas Moore Prep-Marian Lady Monarchs fell to the Lady Falcons of Millwood, Oklahoma by a score of 50 to 36.
The TMP boys lost to fellow Catholic school, St. Thomas Aquinas 65 to 39.
The Great Bend Panthers took on the Millwood Falcons and lost to the visitors from Oklahoma by a score of 58 to 48.
In the night caps at the Hays High School gym, Hays took on the Manhattan Indians in both the a girls and boys bracket semifinal.
The Hays Lady Indians allowed the Manhattan Lady Indians to get out to a ten point lead. Hays would make runs at whittling down that lead, at one point getting down to six points. Ultimately, the Indians from the East, Manhattan, would prevail by a score of 48 to 39.
In the final game of the evening, Hays High took on Manhattan.
Hays took an early three point lead, but it quickly evaporated.
Both teams played hard in a foul heavy first half. Each side reached the bonus before the end of the first quarter and had more than twenty combined team fouls by halftime.
Hays could not muster a successful run to close the gap. The game ended with a score of 78 to 56.
After the game Hays Head Coach Rick Keltner looked back, "We weren't very good tonight."
"You have to give credit to Manhattan," said Coach Keltner. "They really took it to us tonight."
Hays will play St. Thomas Aquinas tomorrow for Third Place.
The TMP Boys will face Great Bend for Fifth Place.
Manhattan will take on Millwood for the Shootout Championship.
On the girls side, Hays will play Millwood for Third Place.
TMP girls will take on Great Bend for Fifth Place.
For the Championship, Manhattan will square off against St. Thomas Aquinas.
