Cimarron’s Santisteven wins individual title, Halstead takes team win
Damion Santisteven of Cimarron made the right moves at the right times to come away with the 3A regional title with a time of 17:18. He beat Wichita Collegiate’s Christopher Meyer, who took second with a time of 17:25. Santisteven’s teammate Justin Burman finished third in 17:32.
Halstead won the team title despite not placing a runner in the top five. The Dragon’s best finish came from Isaac Radke, who finished 10th with a time of 18:00.
Four of Halstead’s runners finished between Cimarron’s second and third-place finishers. Hesston took second place with 84 points and Cimarron finished third in the regional with 95 points.
Trujillo and Puentes lead Southwestern Heights to title
Ozia Trujillo won comfortably over Cimarron’s Clara Bartlett Friday morning to lead her team to the 36-points regional title. Trujillo’s time was 20:45 and Bartlett finished second in 20:49. Southwestern Heights’ Yanely Puentes finished third in 21:28.
Cheney’s Mollie Reno finished fourth in 21:34 and Douglass’ Kendall Coombes rounded out the top five with a time of 21:40.
Wichita Trinity took second place as a team with 73 points and Douglass will take its team to the state championships with 92 points.
