Goddard survives defensive battle with Eisenhower

GODDARD, Kan. (KWCH) -- Goddard got out in front 2-0 early, forcing a safety on the first drive of the game. The Tigers muffed a punt, and the Lions pushed the ball through the back of the end zone for the only two points of the first quarter.

The second quarter was won by the Tigers: a lone field goal, pushing the halftime score in favor of Eisenhower 3-2.

The tide finally turned in the third quarter, when Lions quarterback Kyler Semrad hit Carter Morrow for a 14-yard touchdown pass. Goddard took the 9-3 lead and never looked back.

Gentry Cole picked off Eisenhower running back-turned-backup-quarterback Parker Wenzel to set up the final score in the fourth quarter: a Gentry Cole field goal.

Goddard wins the cross-town rivalry 12-3, to remain undefeated on the season and improve to 4-0. Eisenhower falls to 1-3.

The two schools combined to raise $1,300 in honor of the late Deputy Robert Kunze.
