The combination of a big game from Karenna Gerber and a stifling defense was too much for Hesston as Halstead got a big road win 58-47 Friday night.
The Dragons allowed just a combined 9 points in the first and third quarters in the win, not allowing the then 6-2 Swathers a chance to get back into it.
Gerber was a force the entire night, scoring 7 first quarter points as Halstead made it an early 13-1 game.
Hesston got to scoring in the second, but it was only enough to match the Dragons as they still entered the break trailing by 10.
The lead grew to 18 through three, but a late charge with Gerber on the bench only got Hesston to within 11 in the final frame as Halstead bounced back from their first loss of the season with the 11 point win.
The junior finished with 27 points to push Halstead to an 8-1 mark for the season. Hesston was paced by 14 points from Elise Kaiser in the loss.
