Garden Plain takes district with win over Conway Springs

GARDEN PLAIN, Kan. Garden Plain takes down Conway Springs, 32-21 to win the 2A District 6 championship. The win keeps the Owls perfect in the regular season, after the win over previously 1-loss Cardinals.

The Owls pounded the ball on the opening drive, capping it with a short TD run from Blake Long.

The ensuing kickoff was a major swing point in the game. Conway Springs received and Kyler Alloway appeared to tie the game with a long return touchdown. However, a block in the back call negated the score. Then on the Cardinal drive Heath Hilger was taken down by Blake Long, who forced a fumble and Garden Plain recovered.

Following the turnover, Long scored again, making it 14-0, and a 14 point swing with the penalty and turnover for Conway Springs.

Garden Plain took a 20-7 lead into the half, and held on in the second half, taking it 32-21.

Garden Plain hosts Fredonia to open the playoffs. Conway Springs will host Cherryvale.
