Both teams coming into this game haven’t had the best of success with the Buffs 0-3 and the Indians 1-2. Garden City, coming off of a loss to 6A rival Hutchinson, start the game moving with an early Interception by GC senior Ryan Jarmer, to set the Buffs up for a two yard QB sneak by Junior Carlos Acosta. The Buffs would score again with a 50 yard bomb by Acosta to senior Tye Davis. With a fumble recover by the Buffaloes on the next kickoff put the Buffs in position to score once again to go up 28-0 at the half.

Garden City High School's football team played on the road vs Derby High School on Friday August 31, 2018 at Panther Stadium in Derby, Kan. The Buffalos lost to the Panthers 6 - 49.

Hays High had nothing going in the first half. Coming into the second half the Indians score early with a quick 20 yard pass from Senior QB Palmer Hutchinson to junior receiver Dylan Ruder for the touchdown to put the Indians within 21.

The Indians scored two more TD’s to scare the Buffs with a fourth quarter score of 35-21. With six minutes left in the game, Hutchinson took it himself with a short six yard TD to put the Indians within 7.

The Buffs running out the clock, turned it over on downs to put the Indians at their own 30 yard line and 1:45 left in the game. The Indians, with two long pass completions, come within 35 yards of tying the game. And with 3.9 seconds left on the clock, Hutchinson heaved a long bomb to Ruder, but the ball sailed right through the receivers hands. Time runs out on the clock and the Buffs get their first win of the season.

The Buffs will next challenge their 1-3 record with 1-0 in the WAC with another conference rival in the Liberal Redskins.
