Garden City girls take down Great Bend, 47-29

GREAT BEND, Kan. The Garden City girls knocked-off Great Bend 47-29.

The Lady Panthers made just 19 percent of their shots from the floor and Garden City was only slightly better at 36 percent. The Lady Buffs made their shots count, leading by as many as 23 points midway through the fourth quarter.

Taryn Tabor and Keyhana Turner were busy for Garden City early on with a combined 10 points in the opening frame as the Lady Buffs jumped out to a 15-9 lead. Garden City went on to lead 27-15 at the break.

Great Bend cut the lead to 10 points twice midway through the third quarter. It was all Lady Buffs after that. Tabor scored four points in the third to finish with 11 points and seven rebounds. Turner did not score in the final quarter but still led all players with 12 points and six boards. Elyssa Salazar added eight points, and Julie Calzonetti finished strong with seven points. Sophomore Sydney Unruh paced Great Bend with eight points and Candice Smith scored all six of her points in the first half.
