ELLINWOOD, Kan. Ellinwood beat Kinsley 47-33 Friday night. The Eagle boys salvaged Homecoming with a controlling effort in the nigthcap. After a 2-2 tie to start the game, Ellinwood never trailed again.
Junior David Hammeke scored through a foul for an 18-10 score, then senior Kodie McFarren swished back-to-back treys and scored eight straight for the Eagles for a 28-12 lead at the half.
Kinsley was able to cut into a 15-point deficit with five-straight points from senior Kellen Herrmann but the Eagles were just too much, pushing the lead all the way back to 15 points late in the fourth quarter.
McFarren added another late three and an offensive board led to late free throws. He led all players with 17 points and grabbed six boards. Hammeke added 10 points for the Eagles, and senior Brandon Carr contributed seven points. Herrmann paced the Coyotes with 10 points.
