For the first time since 2012, the East High Blue Aces secured a winning record on the year with a 32-7 win over Wichita Southeast. The win marks five straight for the Blue Aces and marks the best finish in almost a decade.
Friday night was the last home game of the year for East who held its senior night ceremonies prior to kick off. One of the 2020 graduates honored was Nickendre Stiger who served as the team’s quarterback and started at defensive back.
On offense, Stiger controlled the Aces’ tempo and was able to make plays on the ground and through the air. In the first half, Stiger rallied two touchdown passes to Daylan Jones and Michael McCullough, the latter of the two was capped off with an impressive run to the end zone.
Norman Massey also added to the offensive attack from the ground, tacking on a number of yards while bowling over Southeast defenders.
On defense, the Aces were able to hold the Buffaloes scoreless in the first half, forcing two turnover on downs situations, the first of which led to points for the Aces.
With the win the Aces move on to 5-2 and are in prime position to host a playoff game in the first round. They will end the regular season in a week against Wichita West.
Southeast falls to 3-4 and will face GWAL leader Wichita Northwest on the road.
