DERBY, Kan. (KWCH) -- Newton pushed Derby to the brink, cutting the Panthers' lead to only five with 90 seconds remaining. That was as close as it got down the stretch, as Derby survived to win 37-28 to improve to 15-0 on the season.

It was an off-scoring night for the Panthers. Kennedy Brown was two last-minute buckets away from not being the leading scorer for the first time all season. With her final four points, she eventually led the Panthers with 11 points. However, she also missed six of her seven free throws. Jaiden Schomp had 10 points, nine of which came from three.
"It was tough, I'll put it that way," junior Sydney Nilles said of her team's effort. "Toward the end, we had to grind a lot and I feel like we did. We knew that if we grind more that we knew we wouldn't let this team override us."
