Derby wasted no time taking control of the Newton Railers, dominating both ends of the floor, on the way to a 70-15 victory on Friday night.
Defensively, the Panthers allowed their second lowest point total on the year. The lowest total came earlier in the year when the Panthers only gave up 11 points to the Railers back in December. Friday’s effort was full of steals and forced turnovers from the Panthers on the night.
Derryana Cobbins and Maryn Archer each came away with multiple steals in the first half that turned into points on the other end.
Derby kept Newton from the paint by touting their length in a 3-2 zone making it difficult for the Railers to move the ball.
The Panthers used that size advantage on the offensive end. Addy Brown, Tatum Boettjer, and Jaidyn Schomp each made a living down low, which in turn opened up perimeter play for Derby.
The Panthers will look to keep rolling against Salina Central in four days, while Newton will look for its first win of the season against Campus.
