For the ninth year in a row, the Derby Panthers will take part in the 6A State tournament after a 10-0 run rule victory over Dodge City.

The state tournament has been home to the Panthers for nearly a decade. The last time a Derby team didn't make it past the regional match up, the 2019 seniors were still in elementary school.

Panthers Head Coach Christine Weve says this year's group of seniors made it a point to make sure the streak lived on and now they look to move passed the first round in Lawrence.

Derby was able to shut out the top ranked offense in 6A behind a strong pitching performance from Paige Paxton. Defensively, the Panthers were able to keep the errors slim to none but ultimately it was the offense that would punch Derby a ticket to the big dance.

Gabrielle Martin was a spark for the Panthers when she was able to circle the bases for an inside the park home-run. The sophomore went on to clear the bases for Derby with a stand up triple hit well to deep left.

Derby will advance to 6A State tournament play beginning May 23rd at Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence.
