HAYS, Kan. - The 2019 Hays City Shootout kicked off with eight games held between two gyms.
At the Hays High School gym, Olathe West faced off with TMP-Marian and Life Prep Academy took on the host Hays.
Olathe West Lady Owls 58 - TMP-Marian Lady Monarchs 44
The Lady Monarchs led at the end of the first quarter 16 to 15. They failed to hold onto the lead as Olathe West led at halftime 36 to 25.
For almost four minutes in the second half, neither team registered a point. TMP-Marian coach Rose McFarland noted that her team committed way too many turnovers, "it kept us from closing the gap in the fourth quarter."
Lady Owl Bailey Collar led all scorers with 17 points. Kenzie Hart contributed 12 points.
Adell Riedel of TMP-Marian led her team with 14 points. Sasha Wasinger also scored 10 points.
Olathe West Owls 72 - TMP-Marian Monarchs 61
Olathe West's Cougar Downing scored a game high 31 points as the Owls handled the Monarchs. TMP fell behind by nine points at the end of the first quarter. They never could close the gap.
TMP-Marian's Jackson Schulte scored 23 and Carson Jacobs added 19 points to the total.
Owl Carter Lichtsinn added 15 points for his team.
Hays Lady Indians 55 - Life Prep Academy Lady Fire 7
Rarely does a game tilt to one side or the other within minutes of it starting. This game was one of those cases.
Life Prep scored the first points of the game. Hays quickly tied and then took the lead. After that, it was over.
Life Prep only scored seven points for the entire game. The clock ran for the entire second half, not jus the fourth quarter.
Oliqia Lepuowsua scored five points for the Fire.
Hays' Brooke Denning led all scorers with 16 points, including two three-pointers. Tasiah Nunnery scored 13 points. Isabel Robben joined the double-digit scorers with 11 points.
Hays Indians 92 - Life Prep Academy Fire 42
In the final game of the night, the hosts took quick control and never let go.
Life Prep did not score their first point, a made free throw, until almost the 3:30 mark in the first quarter. By that time Hays scored 15 points.
At halftime, Hays led 53 to 20. That lead grew to 85 to 39 at the end of the third quarter.
Michael Johnson of Life Prep led his team with 16 points. Amahj McPhee added 13 points to the total.
Dylan Ruder led all scorers with 18 points. Carson Kieffer contributed 14 points. Trey Adams added 11 points. Jace Linenberger rounded out the double digit scorers with 10 points.
