WICHITA, Kan. Clearwater came into Friday as one of the nice surprise stories of 2018, just 1-8 a season ago, the Indians could finish as district runner-up with a win over Wichita Collegiate. But in a back and forth affair, the Spartans were too much. Collegiate won 35-28 in a great game.
Collegiate struck first in the game. On their opening drive QB Gabe Fisher found Paxton Meares for a nice touchdown strike to make the game 7-0.
The Clearwater special teams unit was working hard early, blocking one punt, and recovering a muffed punt in the 1st quarter.
That muffed punt led to a Clearwater score. QB Tanner Cash kept it for a short touchdown to tie things up at 7.
Each team scored again in the 2nd, including a short Michael Fair TD run to open the quarter to put Collegiate up 14-7. The game was tied at 14 at the half.
Collegiate had just enough in the 2nd half to hang on for the win. The Spartans finish with a 6-2 record, and host Hesston in the 1st round of the playoffs.
