SCOTT CITY, Kan. Cheney's season has been a total turnaround this year. The Cardinals went from two wins in 2018, now to 8 coming into Friday in 2019. Cheney won 38-7 over Scott City to advance to sub-state for the first time in school history.
Cheney took the opening kick off back and were up 7-0 when Riley Petz got the ball around the outside and reached the end zone, putting the Cardinals up 14-0 in the first quarter.
Parker Gooden threw under some pressure and found Justus McDaniel behind the defense which went for 39 yards and set up Scott City for their first score of the game.
Then Hunter Yager ran it in for the Beavers and made it 14-7 with the Cardinals up at halftime.
In the second half the Cardinals hit the air. Zach Block threw to Harrison Voth who took it and went down at the one yard line.
Cheney took it in from there making it 20-7 in the third.
At the 38 yard line and Petz who was the fastest guy on the field takes it and no one runs with him. He broke a tackle or two and made it in again and the Cardinals continue to go.
Cheney finished the game out 38-7.
