Cheney boys knock off Chaparral with strong second half performance

It was a close first half for the top seed Cheney boys and 5th seed Chaparral in the sub-state semifinal. The Cardinals only holding a one-point lead at the end of the quarter but were able to pull away in the second half and win 63-47 over Chaparral.

The Roadrunners were outscored in the second half, 31-22. Cheney's head coach preaching to his players at halftime about cleaning up their shooting and decision making.

In the 16-point win for the Cardinals, Luke Grace led the team with 23 points and Riley Petz was right behind him adding 22 points.

Only two players reached double digits for the Roadrunners. Alec Pfaff and Jonah Wootonn both put up 10 points and Jack Francis scored nine while also being perfect from the line.

Cheney will face two seed Collegiate in the sub-state final on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Cheney High School.
