The Central Plains girls take a 91-game winning streak into 2019. That run includes a 135-1 record over the last 136 games. The one blemish? A loss in Ellinwood in February 2015. Tuesday night would not be a repeat.
Thanks in part to a 15-point first quarter from junior Emily Ryan, the Lady Oilers scored the first 19 points of the game and led 31-4 after eight minutes. Ryan scored 20 of her 26 points in the first half and Delaney Rugan added eight points in the first quarter as Central Plains built a 50-6 lead by halftime.
"(Coach) told us when they worked the flex to always jump to the ball," Rugan said. "We really came through on that."
The Lady Oilers went on to lead 78-11 after three quarters en route to a running-clock 86-15 final. Rugan scored 14 points, junior Zoe Potter finished with 10 points, and Avery Hurley scored eight points. Coming off a school-record eight 3-pointers last week, Ellinwood sophomore Mya Maxwell paced the Lady Eagles with six points.
Ellinwood, in its best start in four years, takes a 4-3 record into the break.
